UPDATE: Amazon responds:
NEWSFLASH - Aghast at Amazon.com
If you have an amazon.com account you need to cancel it right now and/or register a protest. The great online retailer is in the business of doing something so dastardly that it is this hen's opinion that all support for them be withdrawn until the stop doing what they're doing.
Wanna know what it's all about? Well, the Humane Society of the United States is suing amazon.com and several publishers and distributors for promoting and selling magazines and videos that encourage animal fighting. Frankly, I think suing is too good for them!
You have no idea how much this has upset the Hen House and Granny says she's not even going to bother to wait for the next full moon. She's teleporting to the US as soon as possible and plans to wreak havoc. I think I might join her.
The things humans do just beggars belief. There are too many amongst you who should be taken outside and shot so as to put you out of my misery.
Ba-kaaaaak!
Now do go on and read the weekend's posting, below.
As a retailer, our goal is to provide customers with the broadestSince I have no desire to support a company that feels it is acceptable (ie profitable) to distribute itmes that promote hatred, cruelty, harm and greed, I have cancelled my account. Where do you stand? There is a fine line between promoting animal fighting and hate speech.

people may find objectionable.
Amazon.com believes it is censorship not to sell certain titles
because we believe their message is objectionable. Therefore, we will
continue to make controversial works available in the United States
and everywhere else, except where they are prohibited by law.

Amazon.com is the sole retailer of subscriptions to the animal fighting magazines and the only outlet for animal fighters to obtain subscriptions over the Internet. Similarly, Amazon.com is one of only three sellers of the dogfighting DVD and the easiest seller to locate on the web.Do please go the HSUS site and do what you can.

Animal fighting? Yes back to primitive times but did we really leave?
Soothe those ruffled feathers, Atyllah & stay safe. :-)

Hmmm... it seems Amazon is like the Gengis Khan of the book selling world at the moment.

Khylan Seriphyn, at 7:03 AM
Animals fight enough in the wild without humans encouraging them to do it. As for books, that's pure pornography.

Disgusting. Added to Amazon's other sins--the fake reviews, the incredibly intrusive advertising, the absolutely abysmal customer service--it's difficult to see why anyone would do business with them.
Disgusting, but no surprise.

Susan, no, I don't think we did really leave.
Khylan, you could be right - something big, bad and awful anyway.
GB, it's all pretty despicable, isn't it. You really have to have a word with those second cousins of yours.
John, there is something about a company which becomes monolithic, they seem to think it's okay to cease having ethics and values.

I've been in and spat at them as advised.
Now excuse me while I go and throw up ...

Debi, at 4:09 PM
Amazon!? I love Amazon! always found the service to be wonderful and the reviews helpful but then what do I know -
However animal fighting - good grief can't we just leave it at humans fighting. Must be a man thing. (g)

BTW can anyone tell me what use those damn letters we must type in sometimes 3 and 4 times in order to post a response accomplish?
jeepers !!
By
anna, at 4:15 PM
Debi, you should have thrown up on them too!
Anna, the round letter funny letter verification is to stop nasty spammers. Or so I'm told.
Well,l I've not had a problem with amazon.co.uk, but amazon.com - delivery time is a thousand years too long when you're beyond the borders of the great US of A.
As a solution, perhaps we can get amazon staff into a ring and make them fight each other - then they can see a bit what it's like.

good grief.
i dont see why people love animal fighting so much.
its like everytime i have to go to wal-mart [its close to home] i die a little inside. [they use child labor].

Hi Anna,
(c/o an obliging Atyllah)
That's true.
You're talking about Word Verification aren't you. That's Blogger's eccentricity of the moment.
Indeed, I have to type mine at least twice as well to get anything published - and those letters aren't always easy to read are they. :-)

Atually this rises morality questions that run very deep. THis raises lots of questions that run very deep. People could take umbridge with porn, with hunting mags with....the list goes on and on. Just what defines freedom? What is censorship. All questions that have not been adressed adequately enough, I think.
By
Saaleha, at 10:37 AM
That's a very good point, Saaleha, and one we should develop a lot further. Where does the line get drawn? Should we go by the law? (So snuff movies would be illegal, for example.) And do we allow others to draw those lines for us?
I believe in no platform for fascists - but I'm well aware that if they are denied 'freedom of speech' by law, the same criteria could be used to deny those same freedoms to ... well, me actually ...
Meanwhile, we all have the choice of making our feelings known direct to Amazon on this particular topic.
By
Debi, at 12:53 PM
Me, I think it's the general loss of moral direction that's so upsetting, the complete lack of respect for life and the promotion of cruelty.
Susan and Anna, bloggers word verification is being a real pain in the tail feathers at present.
It makes for an interesting and heated debate, doesn't it, Saaleha and Debi.

for me this raised questions around abortion. Who decides what is okay and what is not?
As Muslims, part of our faith is the annual sacrifice at Eidul Adha and the sacrifice that takes place when a child is born. This meat is given to family, friends and the needy. What would I do if someone told me that it is cruel to be slaughtering a sheep, or bull for the matter. Though Islam teaches that the slaughter should be quick and the animal should not suffer, what would I do if someone told me that it was cruelty to animals. As it is, in the UK, Muslims cannot do these sacrifices because of laws preventing it.

Saaleha - how I wish we could be discussing this face to face instead of in this creaky medium. You make a lot of sense - the kosher way to kill animals is by slitting the throat and there are strong arguments that it is the most humane way.
It's ok for me, since I'm a veggie, but complicated when you weigh up whose rights matter most! The rights of people to their own culture (yes!) vs those who want to regulate animal suffering.
For the record, I always put human rights before animals' (sorry, feathered person)but often our treatment of animals can be a barometer of broader attitudes.
SOOOOO much more could/should be said.
By
Debi, at 8:07 PM
You are right, my dears, so much more that could be said and the chicken will be saying it in a brand new post. I expect some ruffled hair (can't be ruffled feathers, can it, you lot don't have any...)
By
Atyllah, at 8:33 AM
You go hen! Hope you don't chicken out when the ruffled hair turns too hairy. I can rely on you Debi, with that magnificent mane, can I not?
By
Saaleha, at 9:02 AM
By your sides, human and poultry friends.
